  • The philosophy here is that JOY should be found in your runs, no matter how many miles it may be that day, or what the time on your watch says.

Fundamentally, I believe in setting goals and pushing boundaries. I always encourage my athletes to reflect on what is important to them (in and outside of running) and to set goals accordingly. With properly focused training and relentless belief and support in their corner, I believe that athletes can accomplish more than they often think.

Oh hey there! I’m Kelly.

In short, I am a former D1 Collegiate women’s soccer player who turned to running to stay active, sane and as an outlet to make a few like minded friends while in medical school. While movement has always been medicine for me, I fell in love with running in a deeper sense following residency. I have become passionate about what really gets people out on the run in the first place. Everyone has a “why,” right? I do, and it has morphed as time goes on. One ingredient should always remain in this sport—and that is JOY. If you haven’t had joy in your runs lately or dare I say, never have experienced it, let’s try to fix that! Renew the JOY in your running!

  • Founder & Coach

Sometimes life gives opportunities that you once only dreamed of, and Renew, my friends, is my passion project coming to fruition. Give JOY, get JOY. Let’s journey together!

    Wife and Mother

    Podiatric Physician and Surgeon

RRCA Level I Certified Running Coach

    Running Bests:

    5k : 21:19

    13.1 : 1:32

    26.2 : 3:16

  • Well, by trade, I am actually a foot and ankle surgeon. I recently have moved from Eugene, OR to Fort Wayne, IN. I found myself in this field of work after playing Division I soccer on the St. John’s Women’s team in Queens, NY. I was surrounded by teammates with foot and ankle injuries and I was eager to understand the science behind injury while also using my education and surgical training to get them back to sport.

Following college graduation, I had looked to running merely as a way to “stay in shape,” get away from the library and make friends in medical school and residency. Running eventually became more than that to me, providing the space for me to breathe after a long day, to decompress, and has really given me confidence in various facets of life. Beyond these benefits, running has proven even more central to my person since becoming a mother to my two precious little boys. They are my “why,” they are my reasons. I hope to model health and movement for them.

I have run distances from the 5k to the marathon, on both road and trail, in my running career. Innately, I am a competitive person and over the past couple years, I have been working with my own running coach to grow and improve my own performance. Even coaches need coaches!

As an RRCA Certified Coach, I believe in using a pragmatic approach to building training plans but also fully understand that each individual athlete is a human being first, and not an algorithm.

  • Success, whatever that definition is for each person, will vary. Maybe it is a mother who finally was able to lace up her shoes and get a comfortable 45 min run in, or maybe it’s an athlete who ultimately was able to finish a marathon training long run without feeling completely wiped out because fueling and hydration was honed in appropriately. Little things may seem little at first, but if details are fine tuned, it can make all the difference.

My goal is to create individualized training plans for my athletes that will not feel like a chore. I encourage my athletes to remember that each run is a gift. A run should never be something an athlete views as something he or she “has to do.” A run, a training plan—it should compliment that athlete, and as a coach, I believe it is vital meet the athlete where they are. My role is to guide them in their running journey making it sustainable for the long run, if you will. I find that if an athlete approaches training in this light, success will follow.

You might be asking yourself...

I know how to run. Why would I hire a coach?

This is definitely an important question to answer, considering the overwhelming number of options for training that are daily flooded through various medias, to you, the runner.

The benefits of hiring a certified run coach begin first and foremost with taking the task of programming your own training, off of your plate. We are all so busy in today’s day and age. Do not let the love you find in running, be mellowed into a something to cross off of your list.

One of the key philosophies at Renew is that runs should always be viewed through the lens of being a gift, not a checklist item. A vital part of keeping the JOY in your runs, is keeping running fun, yet effective to achieve goals. That’s where Renew comes in.

Beyond these reasons, each of us as runners, are firstly humans. We all deal with different life stressors, including challenging schedules and responsibilities.

Importantly, we are all perfectly unique personally and physiologically. I believe that athletes are not algorithms, and the so called “one size fits all” plans spattered  online, are not ideal for improvement and growth. All programming at Renew is created for YOU.
